FEBRUARY VACATION

February 2019 Vacation Programs will run the 19th through 22nd 

Minuteman Community Education offers multiple courses throughout the week of February vacation for various grade levels.

GRADES 9-12
GRADES 1-8

Bring your creative abilities as we make all sorts of masterpieces! Use crayons, fabric, thread, paper, glue, stamps and more to create unique works of art!

8:30-11:30am | Grades 1-5 | $175

12:00-3:00pm | Grades 1-5 | $175

Put on an apron and pull up your sleeves! You’ll be cooking in a professional kitchen and making lots of goodies. Of course, you’ll get to sample your cooking and bring some home for your family!​

In this hands-on baking class we will do a little bit of everything, from proper recipe reading and measuring cup use to decorating a cake with basic designs. Go home with mouth watering bakery treats such as cinnamon rolls, brownies, cookies, muffins, cakes, quick breads and much more!​

In this class, students will develop their creative writing and learn the various literary terms writers use in creating fiction: point of view, setting, character development, plot development, dialogue, and theme. At the end of the week, students will construct and bind a book of their writing.

As an art, photography is a marvelous tool of creative, self-expression. As a science it is a wonderful technical tool, teaching lessons in, light, math, and computer skills. You will be learning to creatively control manual settings such as white balance, aperture, shutter, ISO, among others settings, camera angle, and other compositional aspects of photography will be key aspects of this class. Learn to use Adobe Photoshop to enhance photos before printing.

Get excited about this introduction to programming in Java course! Students will be introduced to the basics of programmatic thinking and will review and practice core components such as loops, arrays, and classes, as part of the Java programming language. By the end of the course, students should feel comfortable writing simple programs.

In Business Sharks, students play the role of young entrepreneurs as they start with the germ of an idea for a business and product and take it through the entire entrepreneurial process.  Students develop prototypes, formulate a business plan and devise a marketing strategy.  Meanwhile, students learn through contextual lessons on concepts such as competition, profits and branding while designing print ads, acting out “TV commercials,” researching real estate locations and designing their storefronts.  The class concludes with our young executives pitching their ideas to a "Shark Tank" panel of parents.  These young entrepreneurs will really be taking care of business!

Energy is everywhere and it can't be created or destroyed! Investigate the wide world of energy and build your own simple circuit as we experiment with electrical energy. Delve into the properties of potential and kinetic energy by making balloon cars and catapults. We'll experiment with chemical energy and concoct secret recipes. Energizing fun!

The sky is the limit in Expert Architects! In this math, writing and presentation class, students each serve as president of a new architectural firm and are tasked with designing and building the city’s next skyscraper. Students study a kid-friendly history of skyscrapers and create a blueprint of their own stylized tall building. They then must weigh other considerations including the environment, traffic and surrounding buildings using Google Earth to find the perfect location for their project. Our expert architects create a three-dimensional model of the structure and present their work to invited parents.

Learn how to create visual communication by using industry standard software such as Photoshop, Illustrator and In Design. Students will develop the confidence and ability to create successful page architecture. Additionally, students will learn how to re-touch and manipulate digital photos while thinking about visual hierarchy, color, and the relationship between text and image. Students will use Mac computers to and will design creative pieces of art!

12:00-3:00pm | Grades 6-8 | $175

Take off into the stratosphere where we’ll examine things that go up! Create blast off rockets, planes, and copters, that use different methods to reach the sky. We will take in a birds-eye view to learn about our feathered friends and we will experiment with the four forces of flight and test how gravity brings everything back to Earth.

Refund Policy: A $10 processing fee will be charged for all refunds. Full refunds, minus the $10 processing fee, will be issued when a student withdraws from a course no later than the Monday February 18, 2019. A 75% refund, minus the $10 processing fee, will be issued to students withdrawing later than Monday February 18, 2019 and prior to the second class. No refunds will be issued after the second class.
